Tactics to Keep Yourself Motivated
If you feel good about yourself, you will be able to easily inspire others to do great things. One of the biggest challenges you will face as a manager is keeping yourself motivated under adverse conditions. It’s important to determine what you want and what things matter to you the most – with a set of goals; you can go about deciding what you need to do every day to achieve them.
Why do you lose motivation? If you are unable to attain your goals, it becomes very easy to lose motivation; the ongoing successful completion of your goals will help you to keep you motivated. If you are constantly chasing the carrot dangled by someone else, you are allowing your motivation to be tied to someone else’s desire to give or withhold rewards, so it is important to determine how important it is to you to achieve an objective in order for it to mean something to you. If you rely on a bonus or some external source to govern whether or not you will meet your goals, you will never be motivated.
1. Make sure you have a manageable number of goals or objectives. 2. Take a look at goals that you made in the past and were not able to complete, determine the reasons why you fell short, redefine your goals and start afresh! 3. Are your goals limited by the fear of failure? Then speak to people you trust, tell them the things that are important to you and ask them to help you generate goals that will be alignment with the things you want to achieve – ask them to hold you accountable. 4. Are you highly disorganized and find yourself focusing on minor concerns instead of things that have a long-term impact? Then it’s time to go back to the drawing board to determine what’s really important to you.
Be patient with yourself, your progress may be slow and there are times when you will fall short. It’s important to succeed on a majority of your goals as this will help to fuel your motivation. As you become more successful, you will become more motivated and this motivation will fuel even greater success.
